Scandinavia’s Heavyweight Sales Organization Trust Nordisk has acquired international rights to “The Last Resort” (“Ø”) Maria SodahlNorwegian writer-director’s previous drama “Hope,” Starring Stellan Skarsgård and Andrea Bryn Hovig, it earned him a spot on the Oscar shortlist in 2021.
In her first Danish picture, co-written with Eske Troelstrup (“Shadow of Victory”) and Therese Hussmann, top stars Danica Cursik (“The Chestnut Man,” “Silent Heart)” and Esben Smed (“Family Like Ours,” “One Lucky Man”) stars a couple who are vacationing with their daughters at an exclusive resort on a Greek island when a stranger suddenly approaches them. When he asks for help, they agree to assist him, but as he asks for more, they begin to fear for their safety.
“My previous films have been unashamedly autobiographical,” Sodahl said. “The Last Resort” marks the beginning of a larger story with a more complex universe. A story where our Scandinavian heroes start out as diplomatic humanitarians, until xenophobia drives them to act out in complete paranoia, primal and violence. In a story about us, for us and by us, the suspense is strong and the gaze is expressionless.”
Nikolai Korsgaard, sales director at TrustNordisk, said: “In this film your core humanitarian beliefs are truly put to the ultimate test, as the act of helping others turns into a moral dilemma. The film addresses a major global crisis, making it timely and relevant to a larger audience.
