spoiler ALERT: This article includes “the lead spoiler from”Squid game“Season 3, episode 2, now streaming on Netflix.
When? Park Sung-Hun The scene of Cho Hyun-Ju’s death was filmed during the memorable game of the “Squed Game” season 3 hiding and wooing, he immediately managed to surprise himself by closing it.
“The director Hwang (Dong-Huk) gave me a direction, saying, ‘When Hyun-Ju gets away from the camera, can you roll a tear on your face?’ And I thought it would be difficult, but I really did it in one, “the park tells Diversity“So when I completed it, the staff clapped and became happy for me.”
But this does not mean that it is easy to say goodbye, especially because Hyun-Ju’s death occurs unexpectedly in the season. “Recently, I have played a lot of villain characters, so I was very lucky to be able to play Hyun-Ju, which is such a good character,” Park says. “It was very difficult for me to say goodbye to her, because I felt that she would last long. I think she had already died before, so it’s a shame.”
Hyun-Ju was introduced as one of the main players in the new game in season 2, which aims to use cash prizes to help fund their gender-confirmation surgery after being discharged from the army. Relying on her training, she is forming a team with Seong ji-Hun (Lee Jung-J), which has become an instrument leader in the rebellion. Diversity Talked with the park earlier About the preparation who was playing the role of a trans character as a CIS actor.

After GI-Hun’s rebellion End of season 2The episode 2 of this final season forced half the players to kill another player, while Hyders try to get out. Hyun-Ju immediately sticks to the old woman, Jung Guum-J (Kang AE-SIM), and pregnant Kim June-He (who U-Ri), all in the same team. The way, Hyun-Ju is forced to kill the players of the opposing team, who show their military training. On getting out on the exit, she goes back to save the newborn from Li-J and June-Hey, before Li Iunga-cow (Yim C-Waun) stabbed the back.
Below, the park breaks Hyun-Ju’s decision to sacrifice themselves, what it meant to see the child’s birth for a trans character, and how the actor reflected on the LGBTQ+ community’s warm response to the character.
Can you talk about a large emotional scene when Hyun-Ju goes out, opens the door and decides to go back, eventually sacrifice himself to save the other two women? What is happening through his head at that moment?
When he finds out the exit, he had just an automatic response to take a step. But I think his inspiration moved from 2 to 3 to 3. In season 2, his main inspiration was to get money so that he could get his gender confirmation surgery, start going to Thailand. But in season 3, her big inspiration was protecting the weak woman, Juo-J, and the newborn of June-that along with the newborn. So when he took a step outside, I think there was a waking call inside his head that was asking him to go back: “You have to protect these people.” So I think it was left in his head at this time, it was that they should go and save them. I remember that I am very bloody and very bloody, going back to the room, and I feel very emotional now, in fact, thinking back on that scene, because it was so sad and heartbreaking moment.
What was the experience of filming the scene of that death? Was this the last scene you shot?
The last scene filmed by me was when I was being photographed by squirt game organizers. When June-June gives birth, the scene was so special for Hyun-Ju because the birth of life is such a sacred and sacred thing. Especially as a trans woman, I think Hyun-Ju has a lot of feelings that roam inside her. When Mayung-Gi stabs me in the back and kills me, there is a line in the script that says, “Hyun-Ju’s soul leaves her eyes.” So I tried to be true to the script.
Before Hyun-Ju’s death, we also see him in action, killing two other players in self-defense. What was the preparation in choreography for those violent scenes?
Before we came in the shooting of the scene, we went to the action school to start with basic training, and then we learned Korio for that scene. We made a little adjustment on the set, but we originally followed the Korio that we were given to us. And one of the two actors with whom I fought in that scene, actually spent seven years in a Chinese temple, called the Shaolin Temple, known for martial arts. So the man was so efficient, he knew how to act and react. Together with him, I knew that I could make a very good scene. When I was filming that scene, the important thing was that Hyun-Ju really wanted to protect the gum-ja and newborn, and to do so, he had to kill these people. But she is actually a very warm person, and she has a very good moral compass, so I thought she would hate these people, even if she had to do it. So I thought of looking away while stabbing it because she did not want to see that she was really killing someone. So every time she stabs someone, she is looking away.

This is a really interesting option. I also liked the moment where you kill the last player, you detect blood on your face. Another player of the Red Team thinks about trying to kill you, but decides to go under the hallway because they are very sacred.
Director Hwang was really very eager for that scene, as he told me that when Hyun-Ju was wiping with sweat and there is a blood stain on his face, he got to see a crook. We went to 10 or more to look really good in that scene. And as you said, there is another player who passes the bus and decides not to fight me. I think it was very funny-this is a scene that reflects Hyun-Ju’s charisma and aura. So this is also a moment that I keep my heart dear.
The complete set for hiding and searching game is incredible, and looks so heavy. Can you talk about how wide it was? It all looks very practical.
The set for hiding and searching was actually just a floor. It seems that when you see the show, it gets many floors, but all this is done with CGI. The overroaching concept for hiding and search sets was the ocean. And you know how the ocean is the path of life, it gives birth to all life, and June-that gave birth to that setting of an ocean. So I thought it was meaningful.
I know you said that Hyun-Ju had died before dying. Now that the chain is wrapped, how do you feel where you have found to leave the character? Do you feel that you have to judge it?
It is always difficult to say goodbye to your characters, but it is especially difficult if it is Hyun-Ju, which is such a good character and such a good person. It was very difficult for me to say goodbye, especially because I found a lot of love and support from fans worldwide. And I think I am playing the role of a transgender character, it also means, because to some extent, because we are all people, we deserve equal amounts of love and respect. Even though I am a sesnder actor playing a transgender character, the LGBTQ+ community saw Hyun-Ju in very positive lights. He loved him, respected and supported him, and I am very grateful for what I do for him.
It seems important that Hyun-Ju died with the first person who accepted him as a trans, as well as the Gum-J, who took more time to accept him. There are two different approaches that still come together for him at the end.
The target for three women was the same: protect the newborn. It was like the solidarity of women together. And as you said, it took a little more time for Guum-Z to heat Hyun-Ju and accept and hug him as his friend and family. She goes through that change, and I think it is really important. If there are people who still have prejudice and prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community, then I hope they will heat it just like a Juum-JEA.
