Saroj Devi started her screen career in the mid -1950s and became one of the most vast and bankable actors of her era. She was known for her widespread cooperation with superstar actors MG Ramachandran (MGR), Shivaji Ganesan, and NT Ram Rao, who appeared opposite each in more than 20 films.
His initial interest in the dance led the film audition. After his debut in Kannada-language film “Mahakavi Kalidasa” (1955), he quickly infected in Tamil and Telugu-Language Cinema. His breakout role took place in 1958 with the Tamil blockbuster “Nadodi Mannan”, which was in front of MGR. The film strengthened her reputation as a top level heroine in the Tamil film industry. He remained a major screen appearance through the 1960s and 70s, with a string of hit, including “Putia Parvai,” “Anbe via,” “Kalyan Parisu,” and “Propagt”, later marked one of his early forces in Hindi-language cinema.
Saroj Devi was among some of her generation stars to give marki status in four major South Indian languages. She titled more than 160 consecutive films as a leading actress between 1955 and 1984 – an unmatched achievement in Indian cinema.
He received Padma Shri in 1969 and Padma Bhushan in 1992 amidst the highest civilian honors in India. Other appreciation from Tamil Nadu to Kalammani, Dr. Rajkumar Lifetime Achievement Award included NTR National Award from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
In 1967, Saroj Devi married an engineering contractor Mr. Harsh. The couple remained together until their death in 1986. She gradually got away from leading roles in the 1980s and sometimes took character parts, while many government and film advisory also worked on panels. She was the chairman of the Karnataka Film Development Corporation and a jury member of the National Film Awards Indian.
His final film presence was in a cameo in the 2019 Kannada film “Natasaravabhawava”.
