Helsinki -based festival agency Raina has gained festival rights for “King Matt the First”, new documentary by Polish Director Jamina wojik (“Ursus Factory Symphony,” 2018). The film is ready for world premiere in international competition in 32nd annual. Hot docks Festivals, from 24 April to 4 May.
The film is the center on the sisters Zoja and Lee, whose world is full of shared games, discoveries and conversations, with their daily squabals and disagreement. Initially, girls, who have a striking equality for each other, share an extraordinary bond of sister.
However, as time passes, the elder sister, Ziza, starts separating from Li. She loses interest in playing in sand or swimming in the river, retreating in the realm of books and spending more time with her peers rather than her sister.
Despite their differences, both girls share a deep sitting fear of crossing the threshold in adulthood, which they see as a source of danger. They believe that adults seem indifferent to the destruction of their world, ignoring environmental destruction and fuel to the struggles of war.
According to a statement, “inspired by the novel of” King Matt the First “, the same name Genus Korkzak (Name of Kalam of Henryc Goldsmit) invites the audience to a realm,” King Matt the First “in a realm by adult hierarchy and obstacles,” according to a statement. “More than a century after the publication of the book, the author’s words are deeply relevant, resonated with the stress and uncertainties of today’s reality – especially from the perspective of young people standing on the verge of adulthood.”
“The film represents the culmination of my discovery as a mother, artist, director, teacher and human being,” says Wojik. “This is a personal voice that advocates for childhood protection, recognizes the essence of humanity in children, rely on them, and follows their openness and needs-while also maintaining the nutrition and safety of the process, a responsibility that lives with adults. A sensitivity serves as a argument for revolution, a person who works as a argument for revolution, a person who learns from the children and re-combines with his inner child.”
Andy Norton, head of the distribution of the festival in Raina, said, “We immediately joined Zoja and Lee’s magical world, and the film was offered unique and fresh angles dominating various geopolitical tensions and crises in our era.
“King Matt the First” will also screen as part of the Polish competition at the Gravity Film Festival against this year’s Millennium Docs. It will mark the national premiere of the film. The 22nd edition of MDAG will be in theaters and 20-June 2 (online) on 9-18 May.
