As kevin costner Turns 70, remembers his one-time costar Whitney Houston,
On his birthday, January 18, Costner shared a photo on his Instagram Stories of himself and Houston on the set of 1992’s “The Bodyguard,” in which the pair co-starred. The photo comes from Houston’s account, which is run by her estate.
“This photo reminds me how lucky I am to get another birthday,” Costner wrote in the post. “When we lost Whitney we lost such a light.”
Houston died on February 11, 2012, at the age of 48. She would have been 61 years old this year.
In the photo, Costner and Houston are joined by hair stylist Eileen LaVar.
The photo was captioned, “Happy Birthday Kevin Costner!” “Behind-the-scenes photo of ‘The Bodyguard’ with Kevin, Whitney, and Eileen LaVar, Whitney’s hair stylist for the film.”
In June 2024, Costner said That while speaking at Houston’s funeral in 2012, he refused to shorten his 17-minute eulogy so that television networks like CNN could air commercials during the broadcast.
Costner said, “I was working on this speech…and I tried to compile everything I wanted to do and finally create this speech.” “Someone said, ‘CNN is here, they won’t mind if your comment is kept short because they’re going to have ads.’ And I said, ‘They can get away with it. They can run commercials while I’m talking, I don’t care.’
He added, “I could feel the burden on her, now it’s on me. What am I going to say about this little girl? (I) went back to that church in Newark and it was packed. It was electric. There were two bands playing, the church was lively. It was like, boom!”
