Screening in Fest’s prestigious Midnight Special Section, it is the first time in 20 years by a Hong Kong’s animated feature in Annesey, the last “Mera Jeevan McDul” in 2003.
Tommy NG Kai Chung, based on the Japanese novel “Sennki” by “Another World” Sijo Naka, is directed by NG Kai Chung. The film is written and produced by the Polly Yeung Po Man and co-produced by experienced filmmaker Chan Gin Kai.
The story follows Gudo, a soul that guides souls for rebirth, and her visit with a young girl named Yuri. Together, they face a hidden curse inherent in unresolved anger that threatens to destroy both physical and spiritual world.

Director NG described his characters as deep human. “When the truth is faced, it is too heavy to bear, they falter. They mourn, they rage – and they stick to unresolved questions in their hearts,” they said. “This insistence, the reluctance of leaving, has the power to destroy them … but it also fuel their strength. It becomes a fire that carries forward their path, even in the dark.”
Screen writer and producer Yeoun emphasized the social relevance of the film. “In a world that is filled with anger and despair, has deteriorated by divisive opinions and disgusting comments, which we are constantly exposing social media, anger spreads more viral than all other feelings,” he said. “As storytellers, we try to use the animation medium to help the audience relieve the anxest feeling, and hopefully turn their anger into change.”
Producer Chan highlighted the project’s associate nature and the youth of its creative team. The release plan, including a dramatic rollout and home entertainment distribution, will be announced at a later date. The film is presented with subtitles in Cantonies; There is no news yet whether the English language dub will be available as part of its dramatic release.
