Media Capital Technologies (MCT) and horror sections will fully produce finance and “ice cream man,”. Ellie rothNew horror film.
Roth, a master of style whose work involves “hostels” and “cabin fever” franchise, returns to the story of a delightful summer city, when an ice cream man serves children sweet happiness with frightening consequences. Beyond that rare teaser, the plot details are being kept in wrapped.
Roth will write the script and direct from an original idea that he has done for more than twenty years. He says the delay is that the studios got ants about financing. The filmmaker launched The Horror Section earlier this year, with the goal of making independent scary films that made him famous.
The Roth MCT will also produce “ice cream man” with Christopher Woodro and Raj Singh Singh and Kate Harrison of Cream. Executive producers include MCT’s Conner Digregorio and Elli Massylon and Horror Section John Shoners.
WME Independent will represent the international rights of the film and introduce it to buyers in the ear. The Horror Section has the rights of the film and plans to release a wide dramatic release during the second quarter of 2026. Filming is ready to start this summer in Canada.
Roth says, “I had this idea for a long, long time, and the studios were very afraid of my early drafts. Now is the time to pursue the envelope as much as I think I think my most terrible and crazy film will be,” Roth is called. The “Ice Cream Man” will start MCT as a financer of independent film projects, an expansion from its role as Lionsgate’s primary film Slate Cooperative Partner. Recent films include “Saw X,” Ungentalman War Ministry, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” and “Flight Risk”. The upcoming titles includes John Wiki Spinoff “Balarina,” The Long Walk, “Good Fortune,” and “The Housemade”.
MCT is a special finance company focused on strategic investment in premium content. The company provides capital to media and entertainment businesses including motion picture studios, independent production institutions and intellectual property rights holders. A range of institutional investors, including massmutual, supports the company and its investment activities.
In March 2025, Roth started the horror section with focus on the construction of a strong library of intellectual property in partnership with MCT. The company will produce, acquire and distribute a wide range of materials including independent dramatic films, television series, sports, podcasts and live events. MCT provides strategic assistance in corporate finance, project finance and day-to-day operations.
Roth’s credit includes “The House with a Clock in It’s Walls,” “Knock Knock,” and “Thanksgiving”.
The Horror Section recently announced its first major film acquisition with “Jimmy and Steigs” directed by Begos in August 2025, set for a wide dramatic release.
