Ellen Goldsmith-Thomas There was always a habit to spot talents, with actors who signed an agent in ICM decades ago, in which he participated to produce influential films and television. The biggest will probably be Jennifer Lopez (The pair’s relationship is about 25 years old). But there is a customer who has developed him for decades, always on the verge of fulfilling his ability and showing versatility, and he is staring at Goldsmith-Thomas in the mirror.
Goldsmith-Thomas-Jinke Credit includes “Maid in Manhattan,” “Hussers” and upcoming “The Kiss of the Spider Woman”-I have just published their first novel, “Climb“This is a long -held dreams in a city, about the players installed for a pivot -making players.
The manufacturer remembers that like all the best interiors, that era is shown in business with a salty attraction. William Moris Agency requirements to be a secretary during the days of the agency, where he got his debut? “Tight sweater. No last name.” But in conversation DiversityGoldsmith-Thomas speaks with deep emotions about overcoming his insecurity and taking advice from multi-hy-hyphens like Lopez and Guardian Angels like Nora Ephron. And if she is her biggest customer at the present time, she is earning that 10% commission. Goldsmith-Thomas are adopting their book for a peacock pilot in this summer.
First and foremost, the things that go on in the talent agency in this book will remove any current human resource executive out of a window. But the manifest is an interesting feeling of fate that I think today’s representation is lacking in business.
I recently studied one in CAA for a few hundred assistants. (Managing partner) Kevin Huven and I were talking about the old days. We started at the same time. I read a scene, where my main character finds a bali in an agent’s office couch and learns that the agent “audition” listens to actresses and lets his assistant listen. As my character is turning on this illegal and frightening story, Kevin’s eyes are boring for me, as what you are reading is a place where you see anyone. ,
Look, this book talks about blows and blowjobs and actresses of agents. But honestly, the assistants were lining after reading to talk about it. I met a girl named Claire who said that she had just started in the mail room and she could not wait to read the book and see how life was different. And I said, “Okay, Claire, if it was 1983, you will be again charged to be a secretary or file clerk.”
I respectfully ask people not to judge my characters through the 2025 prism. There was no solid area for three women at the center of this book that would not be vested by a world that wanted to limit them. I also detect women agents in power at that time, who discovered a way to break their knees or on their tipto.
It seems that people are embracing the fact that this story is uncontrolled with modern Hollywood office culture.
Hair was big, shoulder pads were large, the phones were big – so your dreams had to grow up. My main character Beni, who is on my basis, spoke as a file clerk in the lowest corner of the industry. But sometimes when life feels like dirt, you actually live lottery. Every memo that you typed into William Morris – or Silvan Lite in those days, my book had to be made in three copies on the mimograph paper. A copy went to the office of central files. Beni finds out that she is sitting on this gold mine of information: customers who come and go to the customer who is a firing, transferring, a lifting, which envies, which is petty. She shows a way to navigate this world and use it for its benefit.
How did you get your debut as an agent?
It was in summer after high school. There was a man I was dating and mad in love. He was 5’3, but he said that he was 5’8. He wanted a career in business, and I thought that if I could have a tool to give him to him, he would see me differently. I had no concept of self -love, obviously. But he asked me to get an agent. I put a list of franchise agents together and spent that heat up and down in the Hollywood blanted. Earlier I tried that I was the William Morris agency. I said that I was a reception to see Mr. Morris, and he said, “Try the forest lawn (cemetery).” Finally, I come in front of an agent and tell him that I need only 10 minutes for him to meet this man, and if he did not agree, he would be driving the sunset blanted and will see my boy’s face for the rest of life. The agent said, “You know what is the best part about this child? You.” So I got a meeting. Nothing felt better. As aunt’s drug cousin, she got a little role on “Happy Days” and dumped me. Trust me, it came back around. But when I knew that I was very good in selling people on ideas and things I believed.
You are a very successful manufacturer. How does it feel like to separate so much?
This is scary. I think we are all afraid of the decision, but it is exciting and liberation. I have always been a writer and took me a long time to stand in my truth. A woman who was very dear to me, Nora Ephron said famous, “Everything is a copy.”
Everything Is Copy.
And he told me years ago that I really need to start writing. All these angels in my life who insisted me ahead of me, I think they are with me now.
Who are other angels,
I have learned a lot from Jennifer Lopez (my production partner). She was a dancer who became an actor who became a singer, who became an international icon. He had 80 billion streams on his music and is an unprecedented artist. Nevertheless, she is marginalized because she works more than one.
It makes me realize that I was really good to be an agent. Getting “yes” became my reason. This gave me value, but I was writing all the time. I wish, I would be sufficient or convinced to know that being a writer made me a better agent. Ron Bass, blessing his soul, was re -writing on “My Best Friends Wedding” in the mid -90s. I talked to him about an idea, and he said, “Write down.” And honestly, he was the one who gave me the final draft and taught me how to use it. I wrote a scene and they shared it with the studio, and said they should give me credit. Ron was a lawyer who wanted to be just a writer. They made me realize that I do not want to stay in a box.
