‘Old Guard 2’ star Kiki Leyne being a black woman action hero

It is a few days before it is releasedOld guard 2, “but Take kiki Already thinking about one Third film in action franchise“I pray for it,” ask. “I am liking,” Please everyone watchs this film. Come on, let’s get this greene. ” I would like to do it again. ,

In the second installment directed by Victoria Mahoni and in the second installment available on Netflix, Liane re-connected his role of Neil, who is an immortal former-rain who joins his partner Amar (Charlize Theron, Henry Golding)) To prevent your own two discords (franchise newcomers Uma Thuman) And Quinh (Veronica NG) by destroying mankind.

I talked about taking the film on the next day of the film’s red carpet premiere at Los Angeles. This question -answer has been edited for length and clarity.

You trained for five months for the first film. Did you have to train the same for another?

Do you maintain your fitness for that long time? (Laughing). When it was greenlight, I met my man and we were eating well so I had to make some adjustments to get ready for number two. Pushing yourself physically in a way that is slightly out of your ideal, I really enjoy as an aspect of character building. Neil is a very physical character. He is a sea. I see all the training as an opportunity, which is as an opportunity to respect indigo, while, at the same time, it is really a good feeling when your body changes and you are feeling strong. I like, “Oh, I can now be able to get someone out.”

You did most of your stunts again, but were you at any time when you were like, “I think I will let a stunt double do so?”

I see stunts and fight choreography as an extension of character and as an extension of storytelling, so I want to be as part as possible. But honestly, the stunt where I jumped from the balcony to the flag. We had rehearsed many times, and I had done it many times, and there was a day that we were rehearsing it and I was scared. This was something in my brain like, “No, we already let you do it five times. You can’t do it again,” and I couldn’t just jump. So the day we were filming it, I go up to go up, and my double is ready to do it, and I like, “What’s happening here?” They are like, “Oh, we are going to jump.” I said, “I’m jumping.” And then I did it. I jumped from a balcony to a flag and swung from a window. It was amazing.

Was there a day when you wrapped and you were in pain, were going home and you were in pain?

This will happen when we fought all in the nuclear facility because Neil now has a weapon. It was all shoulder work. I had to take my first cortisone shot because I was hitting that curse (sword) around. I am slicing and dying and stabbing and jumping, and at some point, my shoulder said, “Mam, we have enough.”

How was it to see Uma Thuraman on the set for the first time?

There is such a beautiful grace about her, the way she takes herself, but it is still very hot. I loved working with him. She was really committed to understanding each scene. She takes time to sit together and ask each other questions: “Does it understand? Are we on the same page?” You don’t always get time for this, and so to work with an actress who really prioritize what is on the page, it was one of my favorite things about working with UMA.

What was it to see Charliaes and Uma going to each other in battle scenes?

mind blown. I mean, this is a dream come true, especially acting with him in an action film, because they are unmatched to those who represent for women in action. She kicked the door to look like a female action star and the types of things and types of materiality that we are capable of as women. I am really super grateful, and that especially Charlis as a manufacturer, preferred to make it to me as a black woman in this style. Why I wore my hair, the way I did in the film, it is due to Charlise. We were in the car and I told him, “I think I am going to bring it back.” He was so, “No, wear your hair down.” When do you see an action star with Locs? So such moments are being allowed to take place completely as a black woman in this style, they are types of such gifts that UMA and Charlies gave me during this process. I am grateful to both of them forever.

How do you think a little black girl is watching movies and thinking, “I can be”?

This is what I do for this. I hope that there will be representation for small black girls that I want me to grow bigger. Anytime when people come to me and say that they have seen me playing the role that I am blessed to play, it means everything for me. This is why this business, this business, it becomes difficult. This is just a really difficult time in the industry. The work is rare. Regardless of which level of success you have reached, there are many ups and downs regardless of it. As they say, new levels, new devils. And so in such moments where I feel a little less and uncertain, thinking that I am trying to represent and upliftment that I am trying to encourage and uplift, sometimes I can give me a push to move ahead more than myself. I should be reminded that all this is bigger than me.

When things become difficult, then you turn towards whom?

I turn to my fiancée, Ari (Stachel). You know, he is also an actor, but mostly known for broadway, so he definitely understands these ups and downs very intimately. I am blessed enough for a partner who pushes me. That really I had to remove a nervous attack from the floor because I have done a self-appearance, and I am already completely convinced that I am not going to receive it. There is a partner who can be patient when I am telling him, “I’m going to leave, and I am going to teach real estate or teach,” and he sees me and goes, “Teach? Kiki, what are you going to teach?” (Laughing). That is the first one that actually starts getting me out of bad odor. And then my mother, who has been with me since the beginning of the journey and thankfully, is always praying for me in this wild business that I have committed myself.

You met Ari, while both of you were making “don’t worry darling”. I think you have said that no matter what has happened to the film (Both Leyne and Statch did not make the final cut of the film), You had a great time to make it.

This actually puts it in perspective for me, just as we always get what we are going to receive from every moment – even the pain that causes the pain that is, even from that stuff which is disappointing. All this happens for a reason, and sometimes when you are in it, you cannot see the reason for this, and perhaps the only thing you’re looking forward is coming out. But now that I am on the other side, I am grateful for it. The film will be what the film is going to happen. It is not far from the work I did and the people with whom I had to work. Was very fun. We had a great time, and I met my man.
