In 1982, a Wordless documentary by Godfrey Regio, characterized by Philip Glass, took the world from the storm. After 40 years, it is still not forgotten – certainly not by Ukrainian director dmytro hreshko, now “”Divia,
“When I first met DMYTRO, what I was killed that the documentary in his perspective to produce a film honesty and purity: no pretense, just raw observation and honest intentions. I asked him: ‘Do you want to make this film a Hollywood-style?’ He replied: ‘No, I will do it’Kanyiskats“He,” producer Glib Lukinets.
Hreshko says: “It was not just ‘koyaanisqachi.”
“This was ‘Baraka’ (by Ron Frick), Michael Glawger, Johann Johansson’s ‘Death’ by ‘Last and First Man’. His approach touched me, and then I saw ‘Berg’ by Joke Olthar. This is not a fast book cinema, but I found this experience very interactive.”
In “Divya”, in competition Carlovi separate film festivalCrystal Globe Competition, he reflects the destruction that took place after the Russian invasion UkraineBut also, the ongoing danger faced the entire earth.
“All this silence hopes that it makes the film more universal. In this way, there is more space for interpretation. It just felt right,” they say.
Produced by Gogol film and UP UA Studio, and co-made by Vulk Productions, it was made with the support of the Polish Film Institute.
Talk to Diversity From Ujgorod, Ukraine, Hareshko stressed: “We were trying to ensure that it is not boring. These experimental, slow movies can be tired;
A one who was made much easier by a Grammy-winning musician Sam SlaterWho also joined the team.
“They prepared themselves for the vibration of the landscape: Dust, air, grief in the air. Sitting together in their studio, we will say: ‘Here, we need the’ nausea ‘of Sartre and there, there, the victory of nature, quietly covers the corpses of the Russian soldiers,” Lukianets.
Slater, who has worked on “Joker” and “Chernobyl”, is also behind the score for “2000 meters from Andrevka”.
Harshko says: “Sam’s last album, ‘I do not known as the desired vendor, coincide with the idea of” Divia “. It has a song called’ Kintasugi ‘, which will be very different in the film, after the Japanese art of broken things together with powder gold.
To re -create the world before aggression, the team looked for footage painting Ukrainian nature in all its glory across the country, also to show that “what is the danger of future destruction,” they say.
“We are not only talking about east or south-this is everything that we have. We have started developing this idea before a full-scale invasion. First, it is more that man, and with industrialization, has affected Ukrainian nature. Later, we had to focus on war.”
But he could not allow himself to be influenced by burnt forests, animal corpses and destroyed the fields shown in the film.
“I think this is the same for all Ukrainian directors: we cannot reflect too much on all this destruction and tragedy. We have built this emotional shield, and we will keep it to the end of this war. Sadness, but this work and this camera gives me some distance.
Talking about the ongoing war, not only films, there is a “cultural mission” for any Ukrainian artist, he says. Even people, or abroad, become rapidly indifferent.
“I can say that you thank you. Thanks to all those who support Ukraine. I can’t really say: ‘We need more support.” I think it is difficult to think about something that is far away from your home, ”he believes. But it is difficult to be disappointed many times.
“First of all, I wanted to show nature to recover slowly – as we were recovering, hopefully the war will end. Now, we think it will continue forever. The war comes close and close – threatening everything in this vicious cycle.”
Producer Polyina Harman noted: Our third film with “Divia” is a specially important project – for us, for our country and the world. Its purpose is to draw everyone’s attention to what is happening today. If we stop wars and stop the destruction of nature, we can find ways to migrate from other planets.
