Clothes in exaggerated goth dress, complete with bold eyeliner and a black wig, sang, “When I was a young boy / My parents took me to Jamaica / for my high school spring break / He said, ‘Come in the pool’ but I was in the room with my graphic novels / so I could have masted / so I could.”
The song began with The Reege Beat, in which Thompson and Novodim singing Jamaica and singing, “When war and struggle and pain / How do we fill our souls again with joy?
Michael Longfello played the role of the song’s titular goth kids, clinging to his happy family in pictures, wearing a combat boot on the beach, stuck in a swing, stuck his long coat in a swing, painted his nails in black and shouted after hitting the head with a beach ball.
Thompson sang after the chorus, NWODIM continued, “He doesn’t want a jet ski / he does not swim with dolphin / he wants to look at his big girlfriend’s pictures in the hotel lobby.”
In an interlude after Black’s poetry, Longfellow begged his parents, who was played by Heidi Gardner and James Austin Johnson, to take them back home. “Dexter, perhaps you should just go to the beach and write your poem. Black, Thompson and Novodim made fun of Longfello as their clothes left them deep sweat stains on a lounge chair. As Thompson and Novodim again sang the chorus, “Goth Kid on Vacation,” Black Song, “My shirt on stay on / I will zipline once / please take me home.” As soon as the song ended, Longfello held a large beach cocktail with a umbrella in the glass and said, “A love.”
