Best Actress Comment (updated 6 February 2025): Appreciation for the performance of Fernanda Torres in “I am still here” is so well worthy. In the drama of devastating real -life, she saves a ghostly portrayal of Younis Pava, a woman whose husband was arrested in 1970 by a Brazilian military police and disappeared without any mark. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival at a 10 -minute standing ovation, has strengthened its position as one of the most influential tasks of the year. And at the age of 59, Torace finds himself at the center of a career-defined moment, critics and internal sources of the industry placed their performance as a huge achievement. The deck is piled up without a relaxed, the choice of critics, or BAFTA nomination, but in this strange and unexpected year – why not?

But standing in his way is a malignant rival: Demi Moore.

At the age of 62, Moore has done that many thoughts are impossible: secured her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. The body horror thriller of Korli Fargette “The Substance” is his fearless, physically demand, which he has earlier. In the film, who satirizes the passion of Hollywood with youth and beauty, Moore’s character undergoes a disgusting change after consuming eternal perfection that consumes a mysterious product. The result is raw, disturbing and completely transfixing.

Moore’s node feels both unexpected and long overdose. A box-office superstar of the 80s and 90s, he was rejected by the industry’s reputation circles despite a long-standing performance in “Ghost” and “GI Jane”. Now, with a golden globe win in his arsenal and undisputed speed, he is closer to writing that story again.

However, torres have their own advantages. “I am still here” is a historical, depth emotional and politically charge reputation drama. It is the type of film that traditionally flourishes in this category, a lot of previous winners such as Brie Larsen in “Room” or Julian Moore in “Still Ellis”. In addition, the academy has shown the growing desire to recognize international talent in the major acting categories, as seen with Marion Kotilad (“laven rose”).

If Moore wins, she will only become the third best actress winner directed by a woman nominated for the best director – follow the Holi Hunter in Frances McDoRMAND and “The Piano” in “Nomadaland”. At the age of 62, she will also become the sixth -old woman to take the award.

The best actress’s race remains in the flux, screen actors Guild Awards and BAFTA are still in the game (which is not nominated as Torace). Will it prove to be very powerful to ignore the harsh dramatic turn of torres? Or the transformative performance of Moore and the industry story pushed her to the finish line?
